What is a plant code?

A plant or establishment code identifies the facility connected to a USDA-inspected or USDA-graded product. It supports traceability and is not necessarily the same company as the brand printed on the package.

P- or PPoultry establishments—and, on USDA-graded shell egg cartons, the grading and packing facility.
EST. or MFederally inspected meat establishments.
GOfficial egg-products inspection plants.

Shell egg note: Carton codes such as P-1332 are administered through USDA AMS voluntary shell egg grading. They may not appear in the FSIS establishment API. Open the official AMS shell egg guidance and plant directory ↗
